    HE'S GONE!!!!
    *does patented Dano happy dance*
    HEEEE.
Alright, so this is the opening that all ye D-boy lovers have been looking for. David is going back to Tokyo, and I'm sure that Terry will give you some insight into his past eventually (gag) Tho, I have to say, good for him, ya know? A person should only take so much. They shouldn't let somebody walk all over them.

Kudos for seeing Fred and Chuck again. That whole intro page tho... damn. Talk about something that grounds ya.

I enjoyed the ending. Honestly though, it was frustrating up until the end cuz I thought it would just be another issue of Kat and Fran just avoiding each other. At least now they're talking. The smiles in their faces at the end... it means something. How the heck does Molly fit in all of this beats me.

Anyhoo. I just skimmed through the thing, I need to go back to work. Good for Freddie for at least trying. Good for D-boy for standing up for himself (where did he find the black clothes? up until now he always wears light clothing. hee) Good for Katchoo for realizing she was a bitch, and for actually taking advice and calling Fran. and isn't wonderful, when even when you haven't talked to someone for ages, you pick up the phone, you start talking, and it's like you never stopped?

    Bravo! Brava!

To David for refusing to take Katchoo's abuse

To Francine for taking responsibilty for her life

To Katchoo for abandoning her stubborn masochism and calling Francine

    I don't believe I'm saying this)
To Freddie for actually reaching (partially) beyond his narcissism and recognizing another individual's pain, loss and efforts to move beyond them.

and, of course, to Terry for making all this happen.

Tokyo should be interesting when Katchoo predictably chases after David (much as I like David as a regular character, I hope he sends her packing).

Houston should be interesting too (especially, if Freddie's case turns out the way I expect - I'm guessing that the animal that nearly destroyed his client walks away without any civil penalties and that Freddie shows enough character to try and make good on his wish and calls in Katchoo to be the "next one with a concealed weapon permit.")

and the next issue comes in early January??!! Oh joy! biggrin

Terry, you got me by the neck again...
When I heard the story was about David, and I read the first page, I thought "O MY GOD DAVID WENT BAD AND DID THIS TO THIS POOR GIRL!!! redface"

But then I flipped and saw that the unfortunate girl was someone else's victim..

It was interesting to see Freddie start the cycle again, but it appears it may be broken for sure this time...

Casey and Joe, cool couple, Tambi meh...

NOW TO THE MEAT OF THE MATTER!

David leaving...wow I never thought it would happen, but he did the right thing. Katchoo does not need Francine, Tambi or David, she needs THERAPY. A lot of it...it will help her get her head straight and it's a long time coming...

David was right in what he did. He broke the cycle of abuse that Katchoo was perpetrating on him for the past 2 years or so. It could have been different but Katchoo chose that path, and David chose too. More power to you David!

So now David is in Tokyo...is this the retirement of the David Qin character? I have a hunch it is. I don't see Katina going after him (though the Dream sequence clearly shows they are married later...) because she will write him off as a "sheep" and "same as all the others" etc etc...

Oh well, great issue, now to see Molly!
Hopefully we get to see THE GANG again though!

    Hugs,
    Veronica!

Wow! I almost liked Freddy for minutes there... wink

Lots to think about in this issue. David's reaction to Tambi. It strikes me as odd. He was a bad boy in the bad old days. Does he harbor resentment towards her for killing the monster that was Darcy?

I think David really got to Katchoo with his tirade. (Not that she was any better, just commenting that he got to her, then it was time to leave.)

I must say I am personally against the emotional blackmail David was using. I would have been supportive if he had waited until they got home to broach the subject. But waiting until it was time to leave and saying we have to talk about that thing you don't want to talk about, wasn't fair. Not to Casey and Joe who would have had a thread of dread hanging over their departure and not fair to Katchoo. Yeah, she has treated him badly. But the we will have to talk later and I want you to feel miserable about it now stuff bugs me.

Francine...Good for her! I think for the first time in her life, Francine stopped to think about what she was doing and what she wanted. Way to go Francine!

I'm glad that Katchoo got up the nerve to call. You know, Casey is really really good for Katchoo. Airhead Casey, who would have thunk it?

I dunno....I did not see what David was doing as emotional blackmail...he literally was showing himself emotionally naked, a harrowing experience if I had ever seen it...
Not to mention that he was in an ever-repeating cycle with K, ANYTIME he wants to talk is a bad time, right, not just when Joe and Casey leave...whether it's on the beach, before they leave, Katchoo does NOT want to communicate. She wants things HER way, and does not want David to share with her, even though David has come clean himself...

As I said before, Katchoo needs help...because she is repeating a cycle over and over...reject David accept David, reject Francine accept Francine, over and over and over...in real life some people DO do this, but eventually many do change...sadly, Katchoo does not. She and Freddy are among the only ones in this strip that remain a constant. Freddy in his hopes for Francine, and Katchoo in rejecting anyone that comes close to her and then going after them...I have known someone like Katchoo, she got therapy, and now she is happily married...Terry, have you considered this aspect???

Sad, but someone or something is gonna have to break soon...

    Great strip
    Hugs
    Veronica

It strikes me as mature and realistic. "I don't think she likes me," he says, and I think he's correct.

I disagree. David has been trying to talk to Katchoo for weeks and she has been using Tambi, Casey, and Joe as excuses to avoid him. If saying "When we get back I want the two of us to sit down and finish our talk" makes David an emotional blackmailer, then Katchoo is an emotional terrorist. There is no excuse for this cruelty. VeronicaPace is right, Katchoo needs a lot of therapy.

Freddie IS being an actual human being, actually. Being revulsed by evil, then acting like a jerk. It's more believable than, say, Margaret Houlihan going from by-the-book militarist 'Hot Lips' to being one of the gang on MASH. Of course, he's still more jerk than humanitarian; it'd ruin the fun if he went all nice on us! biggrin

Veronica Pace has it right(NOT the comic book Veronica!!! eek ) about David. I dance NO 'Happy Dance' here.
Yes, he did the right thing.
Yes, F & K are each others' destiny.

But it's a sad day when the once threesome(problems and all) is (presumably) split up for good. "Why can't I have both", while unrealistic in practice(Terry's point, I assume), worked for me on the pages of SIP.

One more point... it seems more and more that the 10-years later never happens. Maybe Ashley is a hint of that, a clue, in the literary device mode. That may be why her age and Fran's pregnancy don't work. Just wondering about the REAL source of those 10-years-after scenes(without casting judgment, at least not yet).

Why do so many people assume that Francine is pregnant with Ashley? Why not with Daniel (the other name for her children she has been fantasizing about since she was a child)? The real question, assuming there is any validity to that set of flash forwards oh so many issues ago, is what happens to this, first, pregnancy (and any result), which occurs years before she marries someone named Brad, becomes estranged from Katchoo, has Ashley, etc.

Personally, I prefer thinking that Terry has been actively reporting on Francine's fantasizing on the future for far (too much alliteration!) longer than the two recent controversial issues (it explains all the internal consistencies between the earlier flash forwards and Francine's recent morning sickness ruminations).

Either way it's going to be fun watching it unfold. smile
